The Breakout programme features over 500 events and activities to suit all interests and ages — and the kids at Glencairn Primary School could not wait to see what is on offer.

In Bellshill, Motherwell and Wishaw just some of the activities available include free swims throughout the summer at the Aquatec, Motherwell, Sir Matt Busby and Shotts Leisure Centres; summer soccer camps at Wishaw Sports Centre; basketball camps at Bellshill Academy; rock school at Musicworks, Wishaw Library; Kid's Klubs at the Aquatec, Sir Matt Busby and Keir Hardie Leisure Centres; canoeing and kayaking courses at Strathclyde Country and street dance camps at Coltness High School and Keir Hardie Memorial Primary School, Newarthill.

Councillor Jim Logue, convener for NLC's learning and leisure services, said: "Now that we've put Breakout online, you can really see the number and range of activities that we offer over the summer.

"You can now search by area, date, age group, or type of programme to find exactly the right activity for your children. And there's a list of all the free events to help you have a great summer on a budget.

"If you don't have internet access, you can easily find out about the Breakout programme by calling 01698 403120 or you can visit our libraries or First Stop Shops."
