Kenny and The Proclaimers enjoy Reel good time
JUSTICE secretary Kenny MacAskill visited Reeltime Music in Newarthill to see how CashBack for Communities funding is helping the organisation.
CashBack for Communities YouthLink Scotland funding uses money seized from crooks and returned to communities to encourage healthy activities.
Reeltime, which offers opportunities for disadvantaged young people to get involved in music, has received a total of 23,800 to allow a range of work to take place including setting up the Jambo Congolese Music Group and a year long programme with Action for Children's young carers group.
Mr MacAskill was joined by Scottish music duo The Proclaimers, Charlie and Craig Reid, as he toured the facility and then heard performances from Motherwell rapper MKD and children's choir Fish and Ships, who recorded an album at Reeltime.
Mr MacAskill said: "The young people involved at Reeltime Music have been allowed to develop their personal, social and career skills through their involvement with music.
"All of them will benefit - and some might follow the likes of the Proclaimers in making a successful career in the music industry."
