Snooker ace pots cash for Motherwell charity

SNOOKER champion John Higgins chalked up a whopping £30,000 for Motherwell's Dalziel Centre Day Hospice after taking part in a TV game show.

The 'Wizard of Wishaw' and wife Denise scooped the charity prize money after winning ITV's All Star Mr and Mrs, broadcast on Saturday night.

The pair, who tied the knot in 2000, impressed presenters Philip Schofield and Fern Britton by answering every question correctly.

Their impressive knowledge of each other left fellow contestants Bobby Ball and wife Yvonne and Jenni Falconer and fiance James Midgeley in the shade.

Volunteers at the Dalziel Hospice were delighted with the couple's win.

Chairperson Gus Boyle said: "We are absolutely elated that they donated the money to the hospice.

"We were told about three or four months ago that John was doing this for us, but we had to keep it quiet. We didn't tell anyone and kept it a surprise.

"We haven't decided what we will spend the money on yet, we're still all in cloud cuckoo land!"
