Centre treats helpers for their volunteering
ONC buffet
A GROUP of around 40 volunteers from the Orbiston Neighbourhood Centre in Bellshill beat the winter blues last week when they enjoyed a special lunch to thank them for their efforts.
Along with half a dozen members of staff they went to the Hot Flame buffet restaurant in Viewpark as a reward for the volunteers whose contribution to the centre is valued at over £42,000 a year.
Centre volunteer co-ordinator Louise Smith said that without its volunteers the facility would not be able to offer many services such as day care for the elderly, out of school service for children and a befriending service for the housebound.
She said that volunteers at the centre also assist with admin duties, staff staffed the food co-op and helped to serve food in the centre’s café.
