A BELLSHILL airman is supporting operations in Afghanistan.
Senior Aircraftsman Liam Syme (20) is a firefighter in the RAF Fire & Rescue Service, serving at Camp Bastion in Afghanistan's Helmand province.

SAC Syme is on his first tour of Afghanistan with the twelve firefighters of Blue Watch.

His duties include being called to the front line to help medics to extract wounded soldiers.

Although this can expose the firefighters to some very traumatic situations, SAC Syme said he was proud to be playing his part in supporting the troops.

He added: "It's a difficult job, but I'm really proud to be helping the guys. They fight for the people of Afghanistan every day, so anything I can do to help is worth it."
