A BELLSHILL school is to play a key role in a project to develop young sports leaders in a remote region of South Africa.
Cardinal Newman High is one of seven Scottish schools, and the only one from North Lanarkshire taking part in the Dreams and Teams project over the next three years.

The initiative, jointly sponsored by the British Council and the Youth Sports Trust Scotland, aims to link schools in this country with their African counterparts and use sport as a medium to develop leadership skills in pupils.

Depute head Bill Tollan and principal teacher Kevan Egan recently visited Thapama to meet with representatives of the partner school and a reciprocal visit to Cardinal Newman is planned for September.
