DALZIEL pupils who designed cards in honour of Robert Burns will have their work on sale throughout Scotland.

Scottish Secretary Jim Murphy visited Motherwell to present prizes to Keir McCluskey and Laura McCartney.

The contest to design greeting cards in honour of the Bard was the brainchild of former Dalziel pupil Sharon Low, who co-owns the firm Robert Burns Gifts.

Mr Murphy was given a tour of the school by Dalziel rector Brian Miller and presented certificates to the winning pupils in the assembly hall.

Mr Murphy said: "The fact these cards will be on sale across Scotland is a testament to the standard of the designs. It is great to see that a former pupil has come back and set up this competition through her company."
