YOUNG people under 16 years can look forward to free swimming sessions in North Lanarkshire during the school holiday break.

The local authority is continuing its support of the Free Swim Initiative which allows everyone under the age of 16 to use all North Lanarkshire pools from Monday to Fridays between 10am to 4pm, until Friday, August 15.

The offer is not applicable during public holidays, such as Fair Monday, at the Time Capsule.

The scheme has proved immensely popular since its inception and young people have enjoyed over 1.5 million free swims in the past seven years.
The scheme provides enjoyment and healthy activity in a safe and secure environment.

North Lanarkshire Council and North Lanarkshire Leisure is committed to encouraging young people to become more active and to adopt a healthier lifestyle.

The swimming pools are gearing up for the holiday period and extra staff will be on hand to cope with the anticipated increase in people using the pools.

Parents and carers are reminded that children from 4-7 years must be accompanied into the water by an adult with no more than two children per adult; children under four must be accompanied by an adult on a one to one basis; and children eight and over are free to enter without supervision.

Free swim offer will be available at Kilsyth Pool, 01236 828166; John Smith Pool, Airdrie, 01236 750130; Sir Matt Busby Sports Complex in Bellshill, 01698 747466; Aquatec, Motherwell, 01698 332828; Wishaw Sports Centre, 01698 355821; Shotts Centre, 01501 823333; and the Time Capsule, Coatbridge, 01236 449572.
