Bellshill customers urged to shop . . . in Hamilton!
RED-faced council chiefs have ordered the removal of posters promoting shops in Hamilton from Bellshill's struggling town centre.
The glossy lamp post advertisements urge customers to visit the indoor Regent Centre for "great shops and family fun".
They've been put up as Bellshill shopkeepers and customers endure unprecedented inconvenience caused by a long-running programme of work on roads and pavements which is designed to make the town centre more attractive.
After the Bellshill Speaker queried the promotion of a rival town centre, North Lanarkshire Council pledged the advertisements would be removed.
Fred Dannfald, the council's assistant business manager for lighting, said: "We have asked the company who manage the lamp post advertising to remove the adverts for Regent Shopping Centre which it has agreed to do."
