Bellshill toddler attacked by dog

A TERRIFIED toddler was bitten in the face by a dog as he came out of a shop in Bellshill with his mum last week.

The 18-month-old boy was attacked by the animal outside the First Stop Shop around 4.30pm last Wednesday (March 3).

He was coming out of the shop behind his mum when the dog, which had been left untethered outside by a man who had also gone into the shop, began growling at the youngster and bit him in the face.

As the frightened youngster's mum tried to get the dog away from her son the man came back out of the shop, picked up the dog and walked away in the direction of the Morrisons store.

The boy was taken to hospital where he was treated for superficial cuts under his eye.

Police have appealed for witnesses and described the male as aged 50-60, 5'7", slim with long , grey straggly hair to his shoulders and wearing a cream fitted jacket.

The dog was described as a small dog with a black fluffy coat.
