Child car seat safety tests on offer
MOTHERWELL drivers can have their car child seats checked at a free safety event in the town.
Over the last seven years, almost 7,000 child car seats have been tested at special clinics throughout the country and over half (51 per cent) were either incorrectly fitted or incompatible with the child or make or model of the motor they were being used in.
And now parents can have them checked at Asda car park in Watson Street on Tuesday, August 3, between 10.30am and 4pm.
Those behind the Scottish Good Egg In-Car Safety campaign say that if sitting in the right type of seat and correctly restrained, a child is 90 per cent less likely to be killed in a collision.
David McDove, assistant business manager of NLC's roads strategy and safety, said: "The statistics are extremely worrying because they show that many of the car seats being used by parents are not as safe as one would hope.
"These checks will only take a few moments and they could save your child from very serious injury."
