Council seeking meeting over North Motherwell 'contamination'
NORTH Lanarkshire Council has written to Collins Solicitors to try and organise a meeting to discuss the alleged contamination of the former Metropolitan Vickers site in North Motherwell.
The council has suggested the meeting should take place after the results of the current round of soil sampling and testing are available, likely to be the beginning of November.
It is seen as an opportunity to bring both parties together to review all evidence and establish what, if any, further action is necessary.
Pollution control manager Charles Penman said: "Collins may be able provide us with further information or evidence that will help us address residents' concerns and protect their welfare – that's our only interest here.
"We don't own the land, we don't own the properties built on it, but we have a duty as a public health authority to ensure our residents are not at risk. It's vitally important that we have all the pertinent information to help us do that."
Last month Collins threatened to take the council to court over their decision to grant planning permission for homes on the Watling Street site.
