Crackdown on internet gang wars
POLICE this week stepped up patrols in the Viewpark and Tannochside areas after a series of gang fights they believe were arranged on the internet.
A numbers of disturbances involving large groups of youths have been reported recently, the latest of which happened at Kilmuir Road, near Lomond Road, Viewpark, last Monday night and resulted in a 15-year-old male being taken to hospital with a head injury.
Police believe that some of the youths involved have been using social networking sites to organise the fights between rival factions.
Chief Inspector Angus McPhail, deputy sub-divisional officer at Bellshill police office, said: "I have stepped up additional patrols in this area and all the local community policing officers are patrolling the regular hotspots on a frequent basis in an attempt to reassure the local community and to deter this type of activity."
Parents of youths involved in fights are also being visited by police officers and anti-social investigators to warn of the implications of their child's behaviour.
