Dalzell Estate nominated for environmental award
MOTHERWELL'S Dalzell Estate has been nominated for a UK Landscape Award.
North Lanarkshire Council entered the area into the competition following a restoration project by the authority and the RSPB.
The work included the repair and restoration of historic features, environmental conservation and access improvements, and was carried out with the help of local residents and site users.
The winner will be announced at the European Landscape Convention Conference in Liverpool in November.
Central Scotland list MSP Margaret Mitchell praised the estate after a recent visit.
She said: "I could not fail to be impressed by North Lanarkshire Council and the RSPB on their efforts and commitment to restore the historic Dalzell Estate and Baron's Haugh RSPB Reserve.
"The reserve provides a valuable resource for locals and visitors to appreciate the natural and social history of the area."
