Drivers demand action over flooding

ANGRY motorists have blasted North Lanarkshire Council after the road under a railway bridge in Bellshill was flooded due to heavy rain.

Drivers have been unable to get under the bridge in Motherwell Road several times recently after downpours.

One frustrated driver said: "This happens here every year whenever there's heavy rain and it's a disgrace that the council aren't doing anything about it."

After the Times & Speaker contacted the council, workers were sent to investigate on Monday.

A spokesman said: "Council operatives visited Motherwell Road after reports of flooding.

"They cleared water and the litter from the gully gratings that had caused the build-up."
