Kirtsy goes extra mile to help heroes

A HOLYTOWN woman is hoping to remind the community of the importance of supporting soldiers when they come home from war through a number of fundraising events.

Kirsty MacLaren (29) is planning to take part in the 10k at the Great Scottish Run in Glasgow on Sunday, September 5, then on Saturday, September 18, she is holding a fundraising evening at The Orb in Bellshill.

The money she raises will go to the charity Help for Heroes, which she believes does vital work in helping soldiers return to civilian life after being so heavily involved in combat.

She said: "It is important for people to realise that although they might be fighting far away, they still play an important part in protecting this country."

Kirsty's brother David (35) has been in the army for the past 12 years, serving in various conflicts including Afghanistan, Iraq, Northern Ireland and Kosovo.
