Land contamination case goes to Court of Session

THE lawyer representing North Motherwell residents concerned that their houses are built on contaminated land took their case to court this week.

Elizabeth White Carmyle, of Glasgow solicitors BMK Wilson, appeared at the Court of Session in Edinburgh to enter a petition that Lanarkshire Housing Association (LHA) cease any work that would involve drilling until the site of the former landfill off Forum Place is properly investigated.

The peition was not heard by a judge as LHA agreed to suspend all activity for 14 days from Monday.

Last week North Lanarkshire Council's pollution control manager Charles Penman stated a full investigation of the site, off Watling Street, which was the former home of Metropolitan Vickers, is about to begin of which the results will be made public.
