New grant key to Motherwell organ fund
A MOTHERWELL church's plans for a makeover have been boosted by a grant of £30,000 from the Environmental Key Fund (EKF).
Dalziel St Andrew's Parish Church received the cash boost to help restore a highly valued pipe organ, which is over 110 years old.
The Times & Speaker reported last month that the Walcker Opus 876 pipe organ is of national and international significance and has been awarded the highest honour of a grade one certificate from the British Institute of Organ Studies.
Alex Baird, chairman of the congregation board at Dalziel St Andrew's, said: "The 30,000 we received from the Environmental Key Fund will make a vital contribution towards restoring this much-admired instrument.
"It is estimated that it will cost 180,000 overall to restore the organ and we are continuing our fundraising efforts.
Councillor John Pentland, chair of the EKF, said: "We are delighted to award Dalziel St Andrew's Parish Church with this money in order to help restore this fantastic musical instrument."
