No happy Valentine for bogus workmen

DOZENS of vehicles were stopped and checked during a police operation.

Operation Valentine aimed at cracking down on bogus workers in the area and was the latest in a string of multi-agency enforcement days and was supported by the Scottish Scambusters group.

Officers stopped 53 vehicles, with various road traffic offences detected such as driving without insurance, no MOT certificate, driving while using a mobile phone, not wearing a seat belt and vehicle defects such as exhausts, lighting and poor bodywork.

One vehicle was found to be overweight, while another was confiscated after being found to be uninsured and the driver detained on an outstanding warrant.

HM Revenue and Customs roadside fuel dip tests revealed that two vehicles were seized and restored for diesel offences which resulted in the recovery of 1,000.

Trading Standards also issued nine letters in respect of failing to notify customers of their rights and there were 48 referrals to the Department of Work and Pensions.
