Opening night for new Uddingston school

PUPILS at Uddingston's St John the Baptist Primary held a ceremony to mark the opening of the newly refurbished and extended building.

The event gave invited guests a chance to see around the new the state-of-the-art school, which was recently given a 3.5 million facelift as part of South Lanarkshire Council's 850 million Primary Schools Modernisation Programme.

Headteacher Christina Seagrave said: "We are absolutely delighted with our new school environment. Pupils have been learning cooperatively and engaging in active learning within our new classrooms and in the open areas.

"We very much appreciate our new IT equipment, including the Smart Boards which have been installed in each class, they have been having a huge impact in the way in which we teach and learn."

Local councillor and former pupil Maureen Devlin carried out the official duty of unveiling the plaque, assisted by the school's youngest pupil, Jamie Rodger.
