Phoenix rise to challenge of nature
PEOPLE affected by substance misuse have been helping RSPB Scotland to improve a Motherwell nature reserve for future generations to enjoy.
Phoenix Futures, which is an organisation offering services to people with drug and alcohol problems, has built a tree nursery at Baron's Haugh and Dalzell Estate.
The nursery will supply saplings of native trees which can be planted out around Baron's Haugh and Dalzell Estate in years to come.
Pardeep Chand, RSPB Scotland assistant warden at Baron's Haugh, said: "It's been fantastic to work with the individuals from Phoenix Futures who have put so much work into the nursery.
"The project has been a big learning experience for everyone, and I hope that in years to come, locals will take a real ownership of the nursery and the reserve."
The nursery will also create a community space for local children and school groups.
