Relief as Bellshill Main Street work finishes early
BELLSHILL'S Main Street was reopened to traffic this week after resurfacing work was completed a week ahead of schedule.
North Lanarkshire had set aside three weeks for the resurfacing of the stretch of Main Street from Emma Jay Road to Motherwell Road to be complete.
However the road was open again on Monday after the contractors progressed the work faster than expected.
But drivers approaching the town centre could still face some disruption as the next phase of works involving the resurfacing of Thorn Road is due to get under way this Monday (March 8).
The work is expected to take a maximum of five days but while it is being carried out Thorn Road will remain closed from its junction with Main Street to where it meets John Street.
Local businesses affected have been informed and pavements will not be affected but road diversions will be in place.
Pat Kelly, the council's head of planning and development, said: "We're doing everything possible, along with our contractors, to deliver these works as quickly and efficiently as possible, so it's excellent that this phase has finished ahead of schedule.
"We'll continue to try to deliver all remaining works in the shortest possible time."
