Uddingston pensioner attacked by bogus caller
A TERRIFIED pensioner was robbed and assaulted in her Uddingston home after falling victim to a bogus caller.
The 87-year-old woman was subjected to the ordeal after answering her door around 10.30am on Saturday (March 13) a man claiming to be carrying out work at a neighbouring property.
The thug then forced his way into the house, on New Edinburgh Road, grabbing her and demanding money.
He then fled with a three figure sum of cash and personal belongings including a mobile phone.
Police have launched an investigation into the 'despicable' incident and urged witnesses to come forward.
The suspect is described as being white, aged between 22 and 27, average build, 5'8" with short dark hair. He was smartly dressed at the time of the incident, wearing dark clothing, and spoke with a local accent.
Chief Inspector Angus McPhail, deputy sub divisional officer at Bellshill Police Office, said "This was a particularly despicable crime which showed an utter disregard for the safety of this vulnerable victim.
"Although physically unhurt, the women was naturally very distressed at what had happened to her and was left in a state of shock.
"There are certain crimes that happen that the public feel totally sickened about - and this is one such crime.
