ANTHONY Skelton from Bellshill won the Scottish Heavyweight Championship held at the SECC, Glasgow by the BNBF (British Natural Bodybuilding Federation).

He is now through to the British Finals Competition, which will also be held at the SECC in October.

Tony (33), who trains at the Bellshill and Mossend YMCA, has been involved in weight training for the past eight years and decided to start competing six months ago.

Following encouragement from his trainer and friend Mick Battersby he was only persuaded to enter the show about two weeks beforehand.

He had never even practised the poses before, never mind planned to step on stage in front of 500 people.

The judges were impressed with his thickly muscled chest, back and abs, on which he showed some great condition.

However they felt he needs to bring the legs up to match the upper body as well as get some good posing practise under his belt, in order to not look out of place if he contests the British.
