STRATHCLYDE Park Rowing Club had great success at the Scottish Championships Regatta at the weekend, winning 16 events across the age groups.

Top performances were recorded by the men's four crew of Fraser Quinn, Andrew Barton, Joseph Barton and Daniel Shankland, who retained the title they won last year, and the junior 18 women rowers – Janey Campbell, Natalie Irvine, Rosie Young, Carla Santoni, Sarah Arnold, Ruth Cranston, Fiona O'Prey and Hazel Gaddis – who achieved a clean sweep in all the junior 18 events including the coxed eight.

Sarah McNee and Rachel Arnold added to the haul of medals as part of the winning WJ16 quad.

Graham Ord and Peter Byrne were worthy winners of the OJu13 double scull championship while Gillian Connal scooped the W Int single scull title, winning by over two boat lengths, and repeated her success in the WInt double scull with crew mate Mairi Struthers.

Success continued with women's vets Karen Barton, Ailie Ord, Maureen McGarvey and Liz Davidson winning the WVet quadruple scull while Ailie achieved further success in the WVet single scull and Maureen did the same in the W4x.

After the event, held at Strathclyde Park, club president and coach Peter Barton said "This has been a tremendous weekend of racing for the club.

"The men's four produced an astonishing, mature performance, leading the race from the start and never letting go. This was particularly pleasing given the interruptions to their training schedule due to university exams.

"The junior women crews continued to impress by achieving a clean sweep of all rowing events in the J18 category and we had significant successes in the J16 events with Rosie Young winning five J18 events, Janey Campbell winning four J18 events and Natalie Irvine achieving success in seveb events across J16 and J18 categories.

"I am also very proud of our beginners and novice crews who displayed real passion and determination."
