Death of cup-winning captain

MOTHERWELL'S 1952 Scottish Cup winning captain, Willie Kilmarnock, has died at his home in Irvine aged 87.

The news follows the death of former 'Well players Geordie Lindsay and another 1952 cup winning hero Charlie Cox.

Kilmarnock signed for 'Well aged 17 in 1939 from home town club Irvine Meadow and he served the Steelmen with distinction until his departure in the summer of 1957.

He is most fondly remembered for his part in the 1952 cup winning team where he played a captain's role in the 4-0 win thrashing of Dundee in front of 136,274 fans at Hampden.
