Fir Park fine for me says starlet Stuart

MOTHERWELL midfielder Stuart Carswell says he never considered being the next Scottish starlet to cross the border in search of English riches.

Dundee United and Aberdeen have lost Scott Allan and Jack Grimmer to West Brom and Fulham respectively, while the Dons’ Fraser Fyvie has announced his intention to quit the SPL at the end of the year.

Despite making only 10 substitute appearances this season, having started three times at the end of last term, 18-year-old Carswell was happy last week to pledge his future to ‘Well until 2014.

Carswell said: “This club is well known for giving youth a chance, so why would I want to be anywhere else?

“Some of the boys at other teams have gone south recently and, presumably, are earning far more than they were up here.

“However, as far as I’m concerned, at this age it should be about wanting to play football - money doesn’t mean anything.

“I haven’t started this season yet, but the midfield has been brilliant and you can’t complain too much about being behind Nicky Law, Steve Jennings and Keith Lasley.”

Both Edinburgh teams visit Fir Park over the next week.

Hearts provide the opposition on Saturday and it’s Hibernian next Wednesday in the re-arranged game abandoned in December.
