Olympic prospect heads to Russian training school

A YOUNG gymnast from Tannochside is off to Russia to train with some of the world's leading coaches and gymnasts.

Nine-year-old Emma McGuire has been invited to spend 10 days at the Olympic reserve school in Rostov-on-Don along with eight other top young Scottish gymnasts and three coaches.

Tannochside Primary pupil Emma is the youngest of the group and has already shown enough potential to earn a place in the national women's artistic squad preparing for Olympic and Commonwealth challenges.

The P6 pupil attends the elite City of Glasgow Gymnastic Club, where she trains for up to 20 hours per week.

Her dad Michael said: "We all realise that this is a fantastic opportunity that shouldn't be missed by any youngster who is serious about sport."
