Robert at deuce in county championships

BOTHWELL man Robert Dalgetty smashed his way to success in the Lanarkshire Open Tennis Championship at Uddingston, winning the single and men's doubles.

He beat Ian Cannon 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 in the singles final and teamed up with Mike Cohen of Hamilton to beat Ian Cannon and John Jellema 6-0, 6-0 in the doubles.

The event has been running for more than 50 years and attracted over 120 entrants.

Bothwell girls Julie Dalgetty and Paige Denholm who won the ladies' doubles, beating Emily Lauder and Charlotte Walker 6-2, 6-3. Paige also won the under-16 title.

In the boys' under-14s, Jamie Fleming, from Uddingston, was victorious, beating Mathew Grieve 4-1, 4-2.

Aileen Goring, ,from Uddingston, and Esther Haig, from Crossford, scooped the ladies' over- 40 doubles with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Eleanor Gilmour and Marion Hopkins.
