Uddingston are Scottish champions for second time

IT was celebration time at Uddingston Cricket Club on Sunday after the Villagers captured the Scottish Cup for the second time.

They returned with the silverware to party at Bothwell Castle Policies after a seven-wicket victory over Stirling County at West of Scotland Cricket Club in Glasgow.

Unlike their previous cup win in 2003, when they came from behind to beat strongly fancied West of Scotland in a tension-filled last over, this was a comprehensive drubbing.

Stirling were outthought by Uddingston's long serving captain, Ricky Bawa, and outplayed in an excellent all round performance from the Villagers.

Stirling won the toss and, surprisingly given their tentative start, opted to bat but were all out for 131 in the 42nd over.

In reply Samir Zia took command in his final game for Uddingston and made 65 not out to win the match in the 19th over.
